On the morning of November 3, 2014, around 5 a.m. local time , the Explorer of the Seas was hit by several waves 6 to 12 meters high as the ship was en route from Bayonne to St. Maarten . Two lifeboats were pressed onto the promenade deck and seriously damaged. No one was injured in the incident. Water entering the ship caused elevators on board to fail.
