The Quantum-Class (formerly Project Sunshine ) is a composed of five previous units ordered series of post-Panamax - cruise ships of the American shipping company Royal Caribbean International . The ships are built at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . They were the largest ships built in Germany until 2018 .
history
On February 11, 2011, the Royal Caribbean shipping company ordered the first ship of the class with delivery in autumn 2014, an option for a sister ship with delivery in spring 2015 was also agreed. On February 29, 2012, this order was converted into a firm order.
On May 30, 2013, a third ship was ordered with delivery in mid-2016, and an option for a fourth ship was agreed. It is called Ovation of the Seas .
The steel cut for the Ovation of the Seas took place on September 18, 2014, the same day the name was announced. The keel was laid on March 5, 2015.
In May 2015, the option for a fourth ship was converted into a firm order, with delivery scheduled for spring 2019. Construction of the ship, named Spectrum of the Seas, began on August 15, 2017. She was laid down on November 8, 2017 at the Neptun shipyard . The fuselage section was transferred to Meyer Werft at the beginning of March 2018. On May 25, 2018, a 140-meter-long section was undocked and, after the AIDAnova had undocked , it was docked again on August 21, 2018. After the ship was undocked on February 25, 2019, it left Papenburg on March 20, 2019 and arrived in Eemshaven on March 21, 2019 . On March 23, 2019, the ship left for the first test drive.
In autumn 2015, a fifth ship of the class, the Odyssey of the Seas , was ordered for delivery in autumn 2020. In the course of the corona pandemic , delivery was postponed to 2021.
