The Grandeur of the Seas is a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International . The ship, built by Kværner Masa-Yards in Helsinki from 1995 , belongs to the Vision class.

history

The ship, ordered on February 14, 1994, was built in 1995/1996 under hull number 492. The keel was laid on June 6, 1995, the launch on March 1, 1996. It was completed on November 20, 1996.

Incidents

On April 20, 2005 , a 13 meter long hole was torn in the hull in Costa Maya , Mexico . The hole was about 1.5 meters above the waterline. The 7-day cruise has been shortened to five days. The ship was repaired in Costa Maya for two days. The shipping company offered passengers to fly them back or stay on board for the remainder of the cruise.

On May 27, 2013, a fire broke out on deck 3 of the ship off the coast of the Bahamas. After three hours the fire was extinguished. There was only damage to the stern on decks 3, 4 and 5. The ship was able to continue its voyage to the Bahamas on its own and the passengers were flown back to Freeport , Bahamas.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . Four B&W diesel motors (12V48 / 60) are available for the power supply. Two emergency generators were also installed. The two fixed propellers are driven by electric motors.
