The Symphony of the Seas is a cruise ship from Royal Caribbean International , which was completed 2018th With a measurement of 228,081 GT, it replaced its sister ship, the Harmony of the Seas , as the largest cruise ship in the world. It was built at the French shipyard STX France in Saint-Nazaire .

The ship belongs to Royal Caribbean International's Oasis class , the fourth ship in the class.

history

As part of the order for a third ship in the Oasis class to be completed in 2016, the Harmony of the Seas on December 28, 2012, the option for a fourth ship in this class was also agreed with STX France. On May 9, 2014, on the occasion of the keel-laying of the Harmony of the Seas , Royal Caribbean International and STX France announced that the fourth optioned ship in the class had been firmly ordered.

The construction of the ship, which was unnamed at the time, began on February 3, 2015. The ship was built under the construction number B34.

The keel of the ship was laid on October 29, 2015. A 10 × 47 m large and 1,000- ton block was lifted into the construction dock. Under this building block coins were placed which, according to tradition, are supposed to bring luck to the ship and the crew. On December 2, 2016, the partially completed shell was moved from dry dock A to the lower dry dock B.

Royal Caribbean International announced on March 8, 2017 that the ship would be named Symphony of the Seas .

The Symphony of the Seas was undocked on June 9, 2017. The ship was then towed into Basin C for final equipment.

The first test drive took place from February 15 to 19, 2018. The second test drive took place from March 3rd to 4th, 2018. The Symphony of the Seas was delivered on March 23, 2018.

The ship was put into service on March 31, 2018. On November 15, 2018, the ship was christened in Miami .

Furnishing

The ship will have well-known features of the ship class, such as Central Park and the Royal Promenade , as well as some innovations. This includes a second pool in the solarium on deck 15.

One of the highlights on board, which are already known from the sister company Harmony of the Seas , is the ten deck high Ultimate Abyss slide at the stern of the ship. There are also three water slides on the ship.

As on all ships of the class, there are 13-meter-high climbing walls, a zip line and the FlowRider called surf simulators.

commitment

In the first season, the Symphony of the Seas will be deployed in the western Mediterranean . In addition to Barcelona , Provence and Florence , Civitavecchia (near Rome) and Naples are also called.

In November 2018, the Symphony of the Seas was transferred to Miami , where it sets out on seven-night cruises to the western and eastern Caribbean.

Sister ships

The Symphony of the Seas is the fourth ship in the Oasis class. So far, four Oasis- class ships have been put into service.
