The largest ships according to Art
Note 1The TI Europe and her sister ship, the TI Oceania , are the largest double-hull tankers in the world. Two other sister ships, the TI Asia and the TI Africa , were converted into stationary offshore platforms.
Note 2The years Viking oil tanker was formerly the largest and longest ship in the world; it was later converted into an FSO , a stationary offshore platform , and was given the name Knock Nevis . The Pierre Guillaumat was the largest tanker built in one piece.
After the Viking years and the 4 ships of the Batillus class had been scrapped , the container ships of the Emma Mærsk class were the longest ships in the world until 2013.
In terms of gross tonnage (GT), the pipelayer Pioneering Spirit is the largest ship in the world.
