The car transporters in the New Horizon class are operated by the Norwegian shipping company Höegh Autoliners. With a capacity of 8,500 cars, they have the highest value for ships of their kind in this size segment.
The draft of the RoRo ships was created by the Finnish shipbuilding engineering office Deltamarin on behalf of the Chinese shipyard Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry . The car transporters were commissioned in Xiamen in January 2013 and built there from 2013 in a series of six ships. The type ship Höegh Target was put into service on July 1, 2015. Another five ships in the series followed by December 2016.
The units are designed as “Pure Car and Truck Carriers” (PCTC) and will mainly transport motor vehicles as cargo. However, numerous other rolling goods and special loads of all kinds are also transported on the nine decks.
The drive consists of a two-stroke diesel engine of the type MAN B&W 6S60ME-C, the electrical supply to the ships consists of two shaft generators and three four-stroke diesel engines of the type MAN 9L21 / 31. The emergency generator is a Cummins QSM11. The mooring and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster.
