Dorothee Fürstenberg (born August 4, 1935 in Schwelm ; † July 19, 2015 in Dortmund ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Dorothee Fürstenberg studied singing at the Berlin University of Music as a student of Elisabeth Grümmer and privately with Felix Dolling in Göttingen . She was a scholarship holder of the German Study Foundation . In 1965/1966 she sang at the Small Opera in Berlin. This was followed by permanent engagements at the Gießen Theater (1966–1968), the State Theater Hanover (1968–1971) and the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen (1971–1975).

In 1975, Fürstenberg came to the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz in Munich as a permanent member of the ensemble . There she was a member of the soloist ensemble without interruption until the end of the season 1987/88. In the 1987/88 season she appeared at the Stadttheater Bern as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro . From the season 1988/89 she had permanent guest contracts in Switzerland, u. a. at the Stadttheater Bern (until the end of the 1990/91 season), at the Stadttheater St. Gallen , in Zurich and at the Theater Basel . In the 1988/89 season she took over the role of Auntie in Peter Grimes at the Bern City Theater . In the 1989/90 season she sang the role of Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring . In the 1990/91 season, the landowner Larina followed in the opera Eugen Onegin .

She has also made guest appearances at the Hamburg State Opera , at the Essen Opera House , at the Karlsruhe State Theater (including as Electress Marie in The Bird Dealer , in a new production in the 1980/81 season) and at the Operettenhaus Hamburg (1974; as Electress Marie in The Bird Dealer ).

Dorothee Fürstenberg had a wide repertoire as a lyric and youthful-dramatic soprano. Her roles, some of which she also sang at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, included: Marzelline in Fidelio , Agathe in Der Freischütz , Frau Fluth in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor , Baroness Freimann in Der Wildschütz , Nedda in Der Bajazzo , Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow . Other major title roles on various stages, including a. in Gelsenkirchen, Arabella , Desdemona in Otello , Lisa in Queen of Spades and Jenny in the rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny . Occasionally, later in her career, she also took on a few roles for mezzo-soprano . In the 1989/90 season she appeared at the Karlsruhe State Theater in the mezzo-soprano role of Hélène Visitova in the opera War and Peace by Sergei Prokofjew .

She also sang numerous roles in operettas on international stages (e.g. Tokyo, Zurich, Vienna) , such as Rosalinde and the title role in The Merry Widow . She appeared several times in operetta roles at the Stadttheater St. Gallen, including in the 1984/85 season as Eurydice in Orpheus in der Unterwelt , and later also as Iduna in Das Feuerwerk . In 1983 she took on the title role in the operetta Die Großherzogin von Gerolstein by Jacques Offenbach at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich , which was recorded as a television production by Bayerischer Rundfunk and broadcast on Bavarian television . In 1980 she worked as a vocal soloist in the ARD music show Robert Stolz und seine Welt . In the summer of 1993 she sang the role of lady-in-waiting Katisha in the operetta Der Mikado at the “Laxenburger Kultursommer” .

Together with the mezzo-soprano Monika Piper-Albach , Fürstenberg formed a singing duo that became known through many concert tours as well as records, radio and television recordings. In 2012, the album entitled Hommage an Elisabeth Grümmer was released as a CD box by her students on the audio-postproductions label in Munich . Fürstenberg can be heard in various live recordings, including a. in duets with Monika-Piper-Albach and the tenor Anton de Ridder .

Dorothee Fürstenberg died on July 19, 2015 at the age of 79 in Dortmund.
