The Operettenhaus is a theater on Spielbudenplatz in Hamburg .

history

Circus Gymnasticus

The theater was opened in 1841 based on the model in Vienna under the name Circus Gymnasticus with 3000 seats. In 1864 the name was changed to Central-Halle . The building burned down in 1876, but was reopened a year later. Today's Musical Theater was given the name Operettenhaus Hamburg in 1920. In 2007 the Operettenhaus Hamburg was renamed TUI-Operettenhaus . The theater hall can accommodate 1338 guests. In October 2011, the TUI Operettenhaus was bought by Stage Entertainment for EUR 7.1 million . In December 2014 the TUI Operettenhaus Hamburg was renamed Stage Operettenhaus .

Programs

In the Operettenhaus u. a. the German premiere of the scandal musical revue Oh! Calcutta! by Kenneth Tynan (1971), Heimweh nach St. Pauli with Freddy Quinn and Anatevka with Shmuel Rodensky , before the theater was sold to musical operators for a symbolic price after financial problems.

Of 18 April 1986 to 2001 this has musical Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber listed. After the time of Cats , Fosse - the show came on, followed by Oh, what a Night! . These shows only ran for a few months at a time. On November 3, 2002, Mamma Mia! , an ABBA musical. The very successful piece ran until September 8, 2007.

From December 2, 2007 to September 26, 2010 the musical I was never in New York was performed by Udo Jürgens . On December 2, 2010, Sister Act celebrated its German premiere there. On November 18, 2012 Rocky by Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens and Thomas Meehan had its world premiere there, directed by Alex Timbers. From October 15, 2015, Love Never Dies , the sequel to Phantom of the Opera , was performed. The musical left Hamburg with the Dernière on September 25, 2016. From November 10, 2016 to October 2017, the musical Hinterm Horizont was shown . The German premiere of Kinky Boots took place in December 2017 .
