Theater in the basilica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The theater in the basilica was a theater in Hamburg-Ottensen . It was located in a restored former machine factory at Borselstrasse 14-16. The name of the theater comes from the three-aisled shape of the machine hall , which is said to have been known as the basilica hall as early as the 19th century . The theater opened on October 14, 1989 and had 250 seats.

Under the direction of Gunnar Dreßler, the concept, which gave theater classics, demanding comedies and stage adaptations a permanent place in the program, was expanded again and again. On the one hand, the theater showed adaptations of films and novels such as The fat years are over , Summer in front of the balcony and The Perfect Man as well as comedies such as Best of Loriot , Ladies Night and Typisch Mann . In addition, pieces from the Hamburg Youth Theater were shown.

The theater closed on February 25, 2012. The founder and theater director Gunnar Dreßler moved permanently to Berlin in order to be able to devote himself to new projects.
