Life

In the turmoil of the revolution in Russia, Shmuel Rodensky left Lithuania and found a new home in Israel. There he was initially one of the first pioneers who began to cultivate the barren land. His acting career began with a successful application for a newspaper advertisement for the Habimah Theater, later the Israeli National Theater.

Rodensky first became known as a film actor in Israel. His internationally best-known roles were 1974 The Odessa Files (as Simon Wiesenthal ) and 1975 Moses (as Jitro ). As a supporting actor he has appeared in Scorpio, the Killer and in the Oscar-nominated film Operation Thunderbolt (1977). Rodensky took part in the German family film Heintje - My Best Friend from 1970 as well as in the 1981 television series Silas .

In addition to his film projects, Rodensky was also a well-known stage actor. At the Habimah Theater he played a wide repertoire of roles. He committed himself to the Yiddish theater and Scholem Alejchem , together with Shmuel Segal and Shmuel Atzmon, as the Three Shmuliks . In the German-speaking countries he became particularly well-known from 1968 onwards through the leading role of the milkman Tevje in the musical Anatevka (original title: Fiddler on the Roof ). As Tevje, Rodensky went on extensive tours.

Little is known of a record recording by the CBS (special edition) MARCATO number 33 (probably from the 1960s) with the title: Shmuel Rodensky sings songs from his homeland .

Shmuel Rodensky was married to Nyura Shein-Rodensky (1902-1992), also an actress.
