Smarhon or Smorgon ( Belarusian Смаргонь / Smarhon ; Russian Сморгонь / Smorgon ; Yiddish סמאָרגאָן; Polish Smorgonia ) is a town in Belarus in the Hrodsenskaja Woblasz with around 37,000 inhabitants. From the 17th century until the Shoah, the place was an important Jewish center and property of the Polish prince Radziwill .

geography
The city is located in the north-west of the country between the cities of Hrodna , Minsk and Vilnius on the Vilia River . The EU's external border with Lithuania runs almost 60 km to the northwest . The nature reserve around Lake Naratsch is located around 60 km to the northeast .
