The Color Magic is a ferry of the Norwegian shipping company Color Line , which has been in service on the route between Oslo and Kiel since September 17, 2007 and has replaced the previous ferry, Kronprins Harald . The Color Magic is the world's largest car ferry by survey .

history

Construction and commissioning

After the success of Color Fantasy , the shipping company Color Line ordered a sister ship from the Finnish shipyard Aker Finnyards on May 27, 2005 for use between Kiel and Oslo.

The Color Magic was laid down in Turku on August 8, 2006 and undocked on December 15, 2006. On December 16, 2006, the ship was tugged to Rauma for the final equipment . The Color Magic was delivered on September 6, 2007 . The Color Magic was baptized on September 15, 2007 in Kiel - godmother was actress Veronica Ferres . Following the naming ceremony, the Norwegian band a-ha gave a concert on a floating stage in the Kiel Fjord .

commitment

Since September 17, 2007, the Color Magic has been running alternately with the Color Fantasy on the Kiel − Oslo line (one departure daily in each direction). During their 20-hour crossing, the two ships always meet at night east of the Danish island of Anholt . During the ten-day annual maintenance of the 60.3 meter high ship at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg or on Lindøværft in Odense in April of each year, there is only one departure every two days.

From January 18 to February 12, 2015, the ship was equipped with scrubbers at the Fayard shipyard in Odense . Since the Color Fantasy was rebuilt from January 6th to January 30th, 2015, the ferry service was completely stopped between January 18th and 31st, 2015. On February 14th, the ship resumed service from Kiel.

Furnishing

With 1,016 cabins that can accommodate 2,975 passengers, the new ferry has 50 cabins more than its sister ship. Like this, the new building, which cost around 325 million euros, has the character of a cruise ship with two car decks and has extensive entertainment and shopping facilities as well as modern conference facilities .
