Norway quay on the east bank of the Kiel Fjord

The Norway quay is a harbor quay in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital, Kiel . It is located on the southern east bank of the Kiel Fjord on the Hörn and has a customs office .

history

The Norway Terminal was completed in 1997 as part of the Kai-City Kiel project and was one of the first buildings in Kai-City Kiel, along with the high-rise center at Germaniahafen and the Hörn Campus .

The Hörn pedestrian bridge connects the terminal directly with the west bank and downtown Kiel. The main train station , the central bus station and many hotels are in the immediate vicinity and can be reached on foot.

The Norway quay with berths 21 and 22 has a passenger and RoRo terminal. In addition to the Schwedenkai on the northwestern bank of the Förde and the Ostseekai (the former Oslo-Kai), the Norwegkai is the hub for trade with Scandinavia . From here there is a daily direct ferry connection between Germany and Norway , which is equipped to transport rolling loads. The ships of the shipping company Color Line , the Color Fantasy and the Color Magic as well as the Color Carrier as a pure freight ferry operate the Kiel - Oslo route for the transport of passengers and rolling cargo. The Norwegian quay has good conditions because it is characterized by short distances both within the terminal and to all other modes of transport. The passenger handling is separate from the cargo handling.

The Norwegian quay is connected to the railway network via the Kiel Hgbf - Kiel Seefischmarkt , also known as the Ostuferbahn.

The terminal operating area was expanded between 2008 and 2012 to include a 9,250 m² commercial area northeast of the original site, which is now used as storage and storage space.

In 2011 around 1.1 million passengers and around 800,000  tons of freight were handled, and 35,000 trucks or trailers as well as tens of thousands of import and export vehicles were loaded.

In the summer months, the Norwegenkai is also used as a berth for cruise ships .

Since May 2019, the Color Line ferries have been using shore power at the Norway quay in Kiel, as they have been in Oslo since 2011 .
