The Kiel Meimersdorf – Kiel Seefischmarkt railway line , known as the Ostuferbahn , runs from the Meimersdorf marshalling yard on the east bank of the Kiel Fjord to the Norway quay , then through the grounds of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems , formerly Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW), to the adjoining naval arsenal. Today the route is built over or removed in several places on the shipyard and arsenal site. The former sea fish market on the banks of the Schwentine can no longer be reached by rail.

A branch led to the now disused Kiel main freight station .

history

The sidings of the Ostuferbahn are served by the DB
Construction work on the track systems at Bollhörnkai (June 2010)

At the end of the 19th century, several shipyards were built on the east bank of the port of Kiel that had to be accessible by rail. The Ostuferbahn, which was opened on January 13, 1912 as a connecting line to the Imperial Shipyard , was created from existing connections . A large number of connections were served, after the Second World War the sea fish market in Dietrichsdorf, which was established in 1947/48 and closed between 1987 and 1992, was also connected. The traffic was handled by the State Railways (Prussian State Railroad, Deutsche Reichsbahn, Deutsche Bundesbahn) and by the connecting's own locomotives. On June 2, 1958, the city of Kiel took over the route and incorporated it into the operation of Seehafen Kiel , since 1996 Seehafen Kiel GmbH & Co KG (SK) and in 2013 Port of Kiel . In 1971, the railway was included in the German rail freight tariff as a public railway. In 2009 the connection to the arsenal was terminated. For a long time, the main customer was HDW. Today (2017) the Norwegian quay and the shipyard are no longer regularly serviced. The tracks south of the Norwegenkai are used sporadically to park trains. The route from Norway quay to the factory has belonged to HDW since 2006.

The locomotive shed built with the terminal construction at Norwaykai is empty, as the DB took over the shunting service in 2014 and SK no longer has its own locomotive on this route.

Bollhörnkai

Another branch leads on the west side of the Hörn to the Schwedenkai , which in this section was called Bollhörnkai until 2010. Originally this line began at the old main station and led to the Seegartenbrücke, it was opened on September 1, 1844, before the start of passenger traffic on the Altona-Kieler Eisenbahn. This route was used for rail / ship transhipment as long as cargo ships were still being loaded and unloaded at Bollhörnkai. New cars that were brought to Norway by ferry were previously transported over this route. The ferries to Sweden and cruise ships moor today at the Schwedenkai. The route was partly built over with gates and was only used very rarely: in 2003 a presentation of Vossloh locomotives took place there, in 2005 the trains of the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn for the Marschbahn were shown to the public there. In June 2010, track construction work began up to the Hörn crossing, as the Stena Line is replacing its previous ferries to Gothenburg with larger ships. As a result, the entire Schwedenkai had to be rebuilt and the Bollhörnkai operating areas added. The unused rail connection for berths 24 and 25 was optimized.

Freight traffic was resumed in October 2010. A MaK DE 1002 from northrail was usually used as the shunting locomotive until 2014 . At the level crossing in front of the Hörnbrücke, a barrier system with light signals was installed, which is operated by the shunting staff. In September 2012, the modernization of another level crossing on the line (Bahnhofstrasse) was completed.

Since 2014, the series are for the shuttle service locomotives 261 of the Deutsche Bahn in use.
