The Jupiter was a ship of the Vietnamese Jupiter Cruises.
history
The ship was built as a ferry in 1974 . The launch took place on September 15 of that year. On July 9, 1975 the ship was delivered to Finland Steamship in Helsinki and christened on July 17 . It was then used between Helsinki and Stockholm until 1981 .
In April 1981 the ship was sold to DFDS and used from June of that year as Dana Gloria between Esbjerg and Newcastle or between Gothenburg and Newcastle.
From 1984 to 1985 the ship operated as Svea Corona for Silja Line between Stockholm, Mariehamn and Turku . In late May 1985 it was renamed Dana Gloria again and used between Copenhagen and Oslo .
At the end of 1988 the ship was lengthened by around 22 meters at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . Then it came back into service as the King of Scandinavia and was used again between Copenhagen and Oslo and later also between Copenhagen, Helsingborg and Oslo.
In 1994 the ship was bought by Color Line and used as Color Viking on the route Bergen - Haugesund - Stavanger - Newcastle. In 1998 the route and the ship were sold to Fjord Line . The ferry, renamed Jupiter , served the route until 2004 when it was replaced by the larger Fjord Norway . From February 2006 and February 2007 the Jupiter was used by Statoil as a barge near Hammerfest . In 2007 the ship was sold to the Royal Group in Hong Kong and used for cruises in Asia from 2008 . From June 2010 the ship was launched in Van Ninh .
On November 14, 2017, the ship capsized off Quy Nhon in Vietnam .
Sister ships
The Jupiter had two sister ships, the Bore Star , scrapped in Alang in 2013 , and the Svea Corona, scrapped in Aliağa in 1995 .
