The Princess Seaways is a ferry of the Danish shipping company DFDS , which operates on the route IJmuiden - Newcastle .
history
The ship was built by Schichau Seebeckwerft AG in Bremerhaven as Peter Pan . The keel was laid on July 8th, the launch on November 30th, 1985. The ship was delivered to TT-Line in May 1986 , which used it on the Travemünde - Trelleborg route . In 1993 the ship was sold to Transport of Tasmania and sailed under the name Spirit of Tasmania on the Devonport - Melbourne route . In 2002 the Norwegian shipping company Fjord Line acquired the ferry. After being transferred to Frederikshavn as Spir , the ship was extensively renovated and put into service in April 2003 as Fjord Norway on the Egersund - Haugesund - Bergen route . From 2005, Fjord Norway mainly took over the England route Bergen - Newcastle and also the Denmark route once a week. In September 2006 Fjord Line announced that the ship and route would be sold to the shipping company DFDS on October 16, 2006. On October 16, 2006, the ship was renamed Princess of Norway ; at the same time the flag was changed to Denmark.
Since May 30, 2007, the ship is used on the route IJmuiden - Newcastle, which it operates together with its sister ship, the King Seaways (ex. King of Scandinavia ). At the same time, the Queen of Scandinavia switched to the Bergen - Newcastle route. The reasons for the ship swap were on the one hand the higher speed of the Queen of Scandinavia and on the other hand the higher car capacity of the Princess of Norway .
In February 2011 the Princess of Norway was renamed Princess Seaways .
For the total solar eclipse on March 20, 2015 , the central line of which ran through the Faroe Islands , the ship was moored at the pier in Kollafjørður . On their regular route (Amsterdam - Newcastle) there was only one ferry trip every two days from March 12th to March 22nd.
In 2019, DFDS Seaways and Moby Lines signed an agreement to sell King Seaways and Princess Seaways . In return, DFDS Seaways was to take over the Moby Aki and Moby Wonder ferries from Moby Lines. However, Moby Lines was unable to hand over the ships in accordance with the contract, whereupon DFDS Seaways canceled the contract in October 2019.
