TT-Line (originally: TT-Linie ) is a Lübeck ferry company named after the first letters of the two connected ports of Travemünde and Trelleborg .

Company history

The Travemünde-Trelleborg-Linie (TT-Linie) was founded in 1962 by the shipowner JA Reinecke, who also took over the management of the ships. Trampschiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG and Iduna insurance were involved in the second-generation ships . From October 1, 1967, the management of the ships was transferred to OHG Travemünde-Trelleborg-Linie (TT-Linie) GmbH & Co. , and Reinecke's shares were transferred to the shipping company Aug. Bolten Wm. Miller's successor . The tramp shipping GmbH & Co. KG now held 83% and Aug. Bolten, Wm. Miller's successor (GmbH & Co.) KG 16% of the TT-Line. The management was with TT-Line GmbH & Co. KG , which both partners owned equally.

The shipping company has been operating a ferry connection between Travemünde in Schleswig-Holstein and Trelleborg in southern Sweden since 1962 . In 1977 the shareholders of the TT-Line took half of the shares in the shipping company Olau Line , which they finally took over in 1979. The Olau Line operated a ferry service with two ships between the Dutch Vlissingen and Sheerness in southern England until 1994 . The high German wage tariffs then no longer allowed a business.

In 1980 the German TT-Line founded the TT-Saga-Line together with the Swedish Saga Linjen, a subsidiary of the Swedish State Railways . The Swedish ports of Trelleborg, Malmö and Helsingborg were called from Travemünde with a joint fleet of six ships . Two years later, in 1982, the connections to Malmö and Helsingborg were discontinued and activities were concentrated on the Travemünde – Trelleborg route. In 1991 Saga Linjen (now renamed Swedcarrier) withdrew from the pool. Their shares were taken over by the Swedish shipping company Gotlandsbolaget , which in turn left the pool at the end of 1992. Then the German shareholders of TT-Line were the sole operator of the ferry connection between Travemünde and Trelleborg.

Together with the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock GmbH (DSR), a ferry connection between Trelleborg and Rostock was operated from 1992 under the name "TR-Line" . In 1996 TT-Line took over the shares of the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock and from then on served the Rostock – Trelleborg route alone, now also under the “TT-Line” brand.

In 2006 the company's headquarters were relocated from Hamburg to Lübeck-Travemünde.

At the beginning of 2013, Arend Oetker and Bernhard Termühlen , who previously had a stake in TT-Line via Trampschiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG , took over the shares in the shipping company Aug. Bolten Wm. Miller's successor and all shares in Trampschiffahrt and now hold equal shares over the Trampschiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG all shares in the TT-Line.

The connection between Swinoujscie (Poland) and Trelleborg has been offered since January 2014 . In the course of this, the connection to Helsingborg was discontinued and the timetables for the two existing routes were greatly adapted. The shipping company has also ordered an exhaust gas desulphurization system as a pilot installation from Wärtsilä , which is to be installed in summer 2014.

In 2018, a new building suitable for LNG (230 × 31 m) was ordered from the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Jinling with delivery in 2022, and a second new building was optioned. Construction began in December 2019.
