history

Nils Dacke (1988–1993)

On October 28, 1988, the 177 meter long and initially 24,745 GT ferry, built at the Schichau-Seebeck shipyard in Bremerhaven, was delivered as Nils Dacke to Swecarrier Rederi Ab ( TT-Linie ), home port was Trelleborg . This put the ship into service on the Trelleborg - Travemünde route together with the sister ship Robin Hood , which was delivered at the same time , in order to replace the outdated RoPax ferries, some of which were only chartered for short periods of time. Both ships were built as rail ferries . However, the existing tracks were never used because the railway administrations had their own ship connections and did not want to hand over carloads.

In January 1992 the ship was sold to Rederi AB Gotland, the home port was Visby . In January 1993 the ship was sold to Ferry Enterprise Ltd and sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau.

Due to the early sale in 1992 of the “jumbo ferries” Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, which had just been put into service a few years earlier, new capacities had to be procured for a short time. The two combination ferries Robin Hood and Nils Dacke were converted into passenger ferries by the Finnish Masa Yards in Turku , as both ships were given additional superstructures. The Nils Dacke was rebuilt on May 17, 1993. The partly open, upper vehicle deck was built over, whereby the uppermost of the three cabin decks together with the restaurant deck above was continuously extended to the rear. In addition, both ships received a bow visor during this conversion , after loading and unloading previously only took place via the stern ramps.

Peter Pan (1993-2001)

In August 1993, the ship was named Peter Pan and returned to the Trelleborg - Travemünde route on September 1, 1993 after the renovation was completed.

Peter Pan IV (2001-2002)

At the end of October 2001, the ship, which is now based in Nassau (Bahamas), was renamed from Peter Pan to Peter Pan IV , with the Roman numeral then being part of the baptismal name and being visibly applied to the ship. With this, however, the ship was only in use for one week and was withdrawn from the route on November 3, 2001. This was due to overlapping names with the naming of the successor on November 3, 2001, and possible operational bottlenecks in the event of late delivery. After the commissioning of the new building, the Peter Pan IV was dismantled in 2002 by its Bremerhaven shipyard into a RoPax ferry. The previously expanded passenger decks were removed again, but the ship is not structurally identical to the original condition after the conversion, as the chimney and air shafts were not lowered again.

Huckleberry Finn (since 2002)

The Peter Pan IV was renamed the Huckleberry Finn in January 2002 and was launched in the same month under the Swedish flag with home port Trelleborg. She served the route between Rostock and Trelleborg from January 19, 2002 together with the sister ship, which was also dismantled.

The ship is used on various TT-Line routes.

In June 2014 the ship collided with the quay wall during the mooring maneuver in the port of Travemünde; the reason is assumed to be a maneuver error. The property damage on land alone amounted to € 20,000; no one was injured in the accident.
