The Ionian Star is a ferry built in 1971 .

history

The ship was built in 1971 as the Prinsessan Desiree with the sister ship Prinsessan Christina for the shipping company Sessan Linjen. Later it drove between Vaberg and Grena as Europafaerjan and Europafaerjan II . After the takeover of this route by Stena Line , it was used by the subsidiary Lion Ferry as the Lion Princess between Karlskrona and Gdynia . Since 1994 the ship has been called Bohus and was used by Scandi Line between Sandefjord and Strömstad. In 1999 the Color Scandi Line emerged and the ship has been sailing for Color Line since 2000.

Since January 1, 2015, marine diesel oil has been used for fuel instead of the previously used heavy fuel oil . The installation of scrubbers , as is done with other units, is no longer worthwhile due to the age of the ferry. In 2019 the ship was sold to Red Star Ferries with delivery in August . In August the ship was renamed the Ionian Star and sailed under the Panamanian flag . The ship is intended for the ferry route between Brindisi in Italy and Vlora in Albania .
