The Club Med 2 is next to its sister ship Wind Surf of the shipping company Windstar Cruises the largest motor sailing ship in the world and belongs to the French tourism company Club Med (Club Méditerranée).
history
The ship was built in 1992 at the Société Nouvelle des Ach shipyard in Le Havre and completely renovated in 1996. The Club Med 2 has eight decks, six of which are accessible to passengers. The ship has 184 outside cabins for 392 passengers. The crew consists of 200 people. All cabins are fully air-conditioned. Cruises are made in the Mediterranean in summer and in the Caribbean in winter .
Technical data and equipment
The ship has a diesel-electric drive . The two controllable pitch propellers are driven by two electric motors with an output of 2945 kW each. Four diesel generators are available for the power supply of the drive motors , which are driven by four six-cylinder diesel engines from Wärtsilä with a total of 5890 kW. The diesel generators each have an output of 2280 kW (2850 kVA). An emergency generator with 320 kW output (400 kVA) is also available.
The sails on the five masts, with a total area of 2,500 m², are controlled by computers.
The ship is equipped with stabilizers that are controlled so that the heel is never more than three degrees. At the stern there is a fold-out platform from which all kinds of water sports can be practiced.
The ship has two swimming pools, fitness and gymnastics center and a sauna. There are two restaurants and there are also three bars.
