The ship was built in 1989 at the Ateliers & Chantiers du Havre shipyard in Le Havre . In February 1990 it entered service under the name Club Med I and was at that time the largest sailing cruiser in the world. It ran under the French flag until February 15, 1990 , then initially under the flag of the Bahamas . On April 27, 1998, it was renamed La Fayette . In 1997 she was sold to Carnival Cruise Line and renamed Wind Surf . She got going for the subsidiary Windstar Cruises . On November 27, 2006, it was reflagged and ran until March 30, 2007 under the flag of the Netherlands , then again under the flag of the Bahamas.
