The Skåne is the largest combined railway and ro-pax ferry in the world.

The ferry , built in 1997/98 with hull number 77 at the Astilleros Españoles shipyard in Puerta Real, Spain, was built on behalf of SweFerry AB , Helsingborg. After the nameless launch in August 1997, the ship was christened at the end of March 1998 . Technical problems during the test drive in May 1998 were followed by repairs and on June 22nd of the same year it was handed over to SweFerry. Before it was put into service, it was completed at the Danish Fredericia Skibsværft .

Since August 7, 1998, the ship has been in regular service on the Rostock – Trelleborg ferry route in the Baltic Sea . In 2000, SweFerry was taken over by Stena Line and operated under the name Scandlines  AB until 2012 . After the Rostock – Trelleborg ferry line was transferred from Scandlines to Stena Line, Skåne has also been running in the Stena Line colors since the end of 2012.

Incident 2012

On March 1, 2012, the Arklow Spirit collided with the Skåne in the Rostock Sea Canal . As a result of the impact of the Arklow Spirit , the Skåne was dented on the aft starboard side, but was able to resume travel.
