Under Neighbors is a German feature film from 2011. Newspaper journalist David moved from Berlin to Karlsruhe. The sociable man befriends his new neighbor, the single nurse Robert. While driving together in David's car, there is an accident in which Janine, whom David had just met in the disco, is killed. Robert urges David to hit the road. David has to report about his own accident for the newspaper and meets Janine's sister Vanessa. The two get closer. David suffers from his guilt and wants to make up for Vanessa for his mistake. But the jealous Robert wants David to himself under all circumstances and interferes in his life. After he unauthorized disappearance of David's accident car and David provided the police with an alibi, he tries to betray David's relationship with Vanessa. He also shows up on a joint kayak excursion between the two of them, Vanessa capsizes in the kayak while fleeing from him and David barely can save her. When she finds out that the men's alibi is wrong, she tries to confront David, but her neighbor Robert overwhelms her. He takes her to his hut by the forest lake, where he used to go fishing with David. He sets a trap by knocking Vanessa unconscious, luring David to the hut and at the same time alerting the police, who overpowered David as the perpetrator. When Robert is informed by the police that Vanessa survived, he rowed out onto the lake. Finally, as in the first frame of the film, you see his empty boat floating on the lake.
