The Biberach Film Festival takes place every year on the first weekend in November in Biberach an der Riss . At the event, also known as the “Family Reunion of German Filmmakers”, filmmakers present their latest works to their colleagues and the audience.

The festival was founded in 1979 by Adrian Kutter , who was also the artistic director and is one of the well-known personalities in the German cinema and film business. In September 2003 the association Biberacher Filmfestspiele eV was founded, which has organized the festival since then and supports its director in the increasingly extensive organizational tasks. The first chairman of the association is Tobias Meinhold, the second chairman of Biberach's Lord Mayor is Norbert Zeidler . At the end of the 40th edition in 2018, Adrian Kutter gave up the management and his wife Helga Reichert was appointed as acting representative. In February 2019, Helga Reichert was elected director of the festival by the members of the Biberacher Film Festival.

On the last day of the festival there will be a gala with awards ceremony. The main prize, the Golden Beaver , has been endowed with 5,000 euros since 2003. The Docubiber and Debut Beaver prizes, each endowed with 3,000 euros , the short film beaver endowed with 2,000 euros, and the public beaver endowed with 1,000 euros are also awarded . Since 2008, a student beaver endowed with 1,000 euros has been awarded by a jury of students from Biberach. In addition, since 2009 the supposedly best TV film shown in Biberach has been awarded the TV beaver . This is endowed with 3,000 euros by the producer Hans W. Geißendörfer . The remaining prize money is provided by the city of Biberach and u. a. the Kreissparkasse Biberach , EnBW , and Liebherr . The remaining prize money is provided by the Film Commission (Ulm region) and the Biberach advertising association .

Starting in 2018, the Siegfried Kracauer Prize , endowed with € 3,000 for “Best Film Review”, will be awarded annually with the Lünen Kinofest .

Since 2004, the BIFF (Biberacher Independent Film Festival) has taken place parallel to the film festival at irregular intervals - as in 2005 and 2008 . This is not an offshoot of the Biberach Film Festival, but an independent festival for short films.
