Yılmaz Arslan
Yılmaz Arslan (born April 20, 1968 in Kazanlı , Turkey ) is a German film director , screenwriter , and film producer .
Arslan, who has lived in Germany since 1975, comes from Turkey and did his Abitur in Neckargemünd . In 1988, while still at school, he founded the summer-winter theater group . He was invited to the 1989 Theatertreffen der Jugend in Berlin with his self-composed piece, the powerlessness of everyday life . Further invitations to Grenoble and Belgium followed.
In 1992, the then 24-year-old presented his first film, Langer Gang . For this he received the award for the “Best Directing Debut”, the “Silver Rose” in Bergamo at the San Sebastian Film Festival , as well as the Interfilm Award at the Max Ophüls Film Festival and a nomination for the German Film Prize 1993. In 1990 the film was shown at the workshop for young filmmakers (today the workshop of the young film scene ). In his second film, Yara (1998), which also won awards at national and international festivals, Arslan was the producer, writer and director. This is also the case with Brudermord (2005), for which the auteur filmmaker was awarded the “Silver Leopard” at the Locarno International Film Festival .
Arslan's film production company also makes films by other authors, such as Shahbaz Noshir's short film Angst Eats Seele auf (2003), which was distributed worldwide as a special feature on a DVD edition of the famous film Angst Eats Seele .
His film Sandstern was shown in cinemas in 2018. With his production company MaxMa Film, he is producing the film Io sto bene by Donato Rotunno in 2019 .
