Have you ever been in love with me? is a feature documentary by Douglas Wolfsperger about Max Hansen . The film was awarded the title “Particularly valuable” by the Filmbewertungsstelle Wiesbaden (FBW).
content
Max Hansen is one of the great entertainment stars of the Weimar Republic . He is one of the founders of the legendary cabaret of comedians . He celebrates success in the role of the waiter Leopold in the musical Im Weisse Rössl (Berlin 1930). However, cabaret pranks and Jewish origins suddenly put a brake on his career after Hitler came to power. After a stopover in Vienna, where he discovered Zarah Leander "on the side" , Hansen built a new life in Scandinavia . He succeeds in staging a new biography and in obtaining the “Aryan proof”. But the fear remains undefeated: Hansen is not returning to Germany.
Douglas Wolfsperger interweaves in Have you ever fell in love with me? an artist portrait , a contemporary document and a moral image to a mosaic, with the subtle images of Igor Luther ( The Tin Drum ) and the contrasting music by Haindling . Wolfsperger mixes old film documents with new conversations and lets Hansen's children Max Hansen junior and Ann-Mari Max Hansen , who are also actors, have their say, but also his fans and contemporaries, former colleagues and future stars like Brigitte Mira . Have you ever been in love with me? is the portrait of a forgotten superstar. It is also a document about the artistically most fertile period of the Weimar Republic , when world-class film, theater and cabaret flourished. And it is a film that reports retrospectively on the upheavals in the German entertainment industry during the Nazi era and the problems that many emigrants had with their former homeland long after the end of the Nazi era.
