Catalina Molina (born October 8, 1984 in Buenos Aires ) is an Austrian-Argentine film director and screenwriter .

Life

From 2004 Molina studied directing at the Vienna Film Academy with Michael Haneke , whom she accompanied as assistant director for his opera production Così fan tutte (2013, Teatro Real Madrid ) . She received international attention with her short films Talleres Clandestinos (2010), which was nominated for the European Film Prize, and Our Song (2012), which received the Austrian Film Prize for Best Short Film 2013.

Her feature film debut is the television film Drachenjungfrau ( Epo-Film ), which was released in 2016 in the ORF country crime series . In 2018 she directed the Tatort episode Glück alone, which was filmed in Vienna, based on a script by Uli Brée . The first broadcast took place on June 2, 2019. For her second country thriller Das dunkle Paradies she was honored in the Romy Awards 2020 in the category Best Director TV Fiction .

Molina has two daughters and lives in Vienna.
