action

Hubert and Helga have two daughters together, are separated and each time with new partners. Helga is expecting a child from her new friend Wolfi, who already has a son. Everyday life works reasonably well for the blended family , even if not everyone always gets along well. The family comes together in Hubert's parents' house in Graz to celebrate Hubert's mother Marianne's birthday. On this occasion Hubert's new friend Patricia and Helga's new boyfriend Wolfi should also be introduced. His old mother, who has a heart condition, knows nothing about the changes in Hubert's private life. In order to spare her, Hubert prefers to remain silent instead of informing her of the changes and begins to pretend to be an intact family. This is how a comedy starts in which everyone plays for different reasons, until everyone is exhausted, drunk, offended or desperate and no longer knows exactly who they are with and for what reasons. Hubert finally confesses the truth to his mother. She reacts calmly and says that she doesn't care who is with whom, the main thing is that they are happy.

reception

Reviews

The Heilbronn voice said that the film would dissect with merciless precision what happens when people meet between whom something has been wrong for a long time. This is sometimes painfully open, but above all it's very funny. “You can tell about this comedy that it was also produced on Wednesday evening on Piefke television. If this were a genuinely Austrian production, it would have been a lot sharper. But Josef Hader and Pia Hierzegger alone are worth switching on. ” However, the starting position is a bit constructed and the end is more conciliatory than necessary. Above all, the film is an event because of its great actors: “If Hader, Hierzegger and Co. try to maintain their construct of lies in front of their (in-law) mother, even though they don't really know why they should do it, then that's great acting. "

Volker Bergmeister from Tittelbach.tv described the film as a "lively and funny comedy about the normal white lies everyday madness".

Die Zeit Online wrote that in this blended family many people feel bad and “ eating is the order of the day”. As a viewer, one is “grateful that the Austrian idiom for producing the stomach contents is much more euphonistic than its High German counterpart.” Hader see in this film always looks like “as if a heavy downpour had just surprised him. [...] And Hierzegger is already in such a grave mood at the beginning that there are actually no more nuances downwards. . The whole ensemble dominates the priggish, world-weary, Austrian expression on scariest "basic problem of the film is that he too in his black-humored insults would sink," Even black humor is hard to bear as a permanent condition. "
