Film Commission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The film commission is a mostly publicly financed organization whose task it is to promote the film industry in a certain area. They offer services for film producers with the aim of increasing the number of film productions in their own area and thereby winning as many orders as possible for local film professionals. In contrast to state film funding , they do not primarily support with funding, but with services. So-called location guides (directory of filming locations) and production guides (directory of film professionals) are among the most popular instruments used by film commissions. The Film Commission Region Stuttgart has developed an online location guide here, which film producers and production companies can use to research individual locations in Baden-Württemberg.

Germany, Austria and Switzerland

In Germany, film commissions are usually organized nationally or regionally. The Film Commission Bayern , which was founded in 1989, is considered the first German film commission . For example, it offers filmmakers a free information brochure that gives an overview of facts and figures about the respective locations and studios as well as a directory of the contact persons for the shooting permits and the Bavarian film and television industry. Other film commissions in Germany include the “ Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Funding Commission ”, the “Berlin Brandenburg Film Commission” and the “Film Commission Region Stuttgart”.

In Austria, the Austrian Film Commission (AFC) was founded in 1986 , which is financed from public funds from the film industry.

In Switzerland, the “Swiss film commission”, also known as Film Location Switzerland , takes care of these tasks. Among other things, the "Filmlocation Lucerne" has existed since 2009, the aim of which is to develop Lucerne into a forum for the exchange of ideas, trade and innovation transfers, as well as a training, production and event location for television and film developments. Another production location is the "Film Location Riviera".

International

Film commissions are spread around the world. The International Film Commissioner Association AFCI, based in Cheyenne / Wyoming, USA, organizes 300 film commissions from all over the world. For Europe, the EuFCN European Film Commissions Network was founded in 2007 with 70 members from 21 countries (as of 2009).
