Location Austria
As the Austrian Film Commission, Location Austria is entrusted with the international application of Austria as a film production location . It is the first point of contact and information point for international production companies when it comes to filming or the handling of productions in Austria.
The non-profit agency, based in Vienna , was founded in 1997 on the initiative of the Austrian film industry and the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location as a department of the Austrian Business Agency (ABA-Invest in Austria), the nationwide agency for business settlement and commercial advertising. As a member of Filming Europe, the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN), Location Austria is part of a Europe-wide network of meanwhile more than 80 film commissions. Arie Bohrer was President of the EUFCN from 2007 to 2014 and has been on the EUFCN Advisory Board since the beginning of 2015.
Over the years, film commissions have become an integral part of the international film and media world due to their profitable activity and economic importance.
More recent examples of the successful acquisition and support of international film projects by Location Austria are the Indian action thriller Tiger Zinda Hai with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Woman in Gold with Helen Mirren, James Bond - Specter with Daniel Craig, the Indian love drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor, Eddie the Eagle with Hugh Jackmann, Mission Impossible 5 with Tom Cruise, The Best Offer with Geoffrey Rush, Die Säulen der Erde , Season of the Witch with Nicolas Cage and James Bond - Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig.
Location Austria and Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) act as the contact point for the film funding model FISA - Filmstandort Austria, an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location (BMDW), which came into force in 2010, to promote cinema film productions.
Tasks and achievements
The area of responsibility consists of two main areas:
- The primary goal is the acquisition of international productions in the areas of cinema , TV , documentary and commercials as well as support before and during the project implementation.
- The promotion and image enhancement of Austria as a film location abroad
The range of services includes the following:
- Mediation between international producers and the local film industry
- Help with the search for an Austrian co-production partner ( e.g. via AAFP or Film Austria ),
- Support in the search for a motif, the procurement of photo material and the negotiation of filming permits or the placement of location scouts
- Information about Austrian production conditions, funding institutions , labor and tax law as well as official procedures
- Ready-to-call assistance during the entire production period
