As the Austrian Film Commission, Location Austria is entrusted with the international application of Austria as a film production location . It is the first point of contact and information point for international production companies when it comes to filming or the handling of productions in Austria.

The non-profit agency, based in Vienna , was founded in 1997 on the initiative of the Austrian film industry and the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location as a department of the Austrian Business Agency (ABA-Invest in Austria), the nationwide agency for business settlement and commercial advertising. As a member of Filming Europe, the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN), Location Austria is part of a Europe-wide network of meanwhile more than 80 film commissions. Arie Bohrer was President of the EUFCN from 2007 to 2014 and has been on the EUFCN Advisory Board since the beginning of 2015.

Over the years, film commissions have become an integral part of the international film and media world due to their profitable activity and economic importance.

Location Austria and Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) act as the contact point for the film funding model FISA - Filmstandort Austria, an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location (BMDW), which came into force in 2010, to promote cinema film productions.

Tasks and achievements

The area of ​​responsibility consists of two main areas:

  • The promotion and image enhancement of Austria as a film location abroad

The range of services includes the following:

  • Mediation between international producers and the local film industry

  • Information about Austrian production conditions, funding institutions , labor and tax law as well as official procedures
  • Ready-to-call assistance during the entire production period
