Hirnbatzl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hirnbatzl or Hirnbatzal is the old Bavarian onomatopoeic expression for a catapult-like finger stroke with the index finger tip against the forehead (in Bavaria usually referred to as the brain ) of the other person. There is no high German expression for it. The part of the word Batzl probably comes from "Batschl", the vernacular belittling of the resulting "slap" sound. Possibly. the term could also come from "Zerbatzen" , since the Bavarian expression "zerbatzen" is used instead of crushing .

When administering a brainbeat, the performer first holds back the tip of his index finger with the thumb of the same hand, while he tries to stretch the index finger to build up tension and position his hand in front of the victim's forehead. There he spontaneously pulls the braking thumb to the side so that the tip of the index finger with the side of the nail snaps against the forehead of the other person.

Basically, the Hirnbatzl is meant more as a loving reprimand or indication of misconduct among friends, but symbolizes the desire for physical punishment and can also cause pain to the person concerned.

Because of the increasing violence among children and adolescents and the punishment law is today due to the role model for example, puppet theater performances on the Oktoberfest in Munich on the so-called traditional "juicy Watsch'n" ( High German : violent slap ) of Kaspers recklessly naive compared to the acting " Seppl "waived, and in their place, the Kasper nowadays awards a Hirnbatzl. Every now and then one encounters attempts at definition that underline that a Hirnbatzl "must really hurt", so it should be mentioned that a Hirnbatzl can represent an intervention in the physical integrity of the person concerned.
