history

The Kreissparkasse Biberach was founded on December 16, 1853 as Oberamtssparkasse Biberach. As a result of the savings bank reform in 1932, the formerly legally dependent Oberamtssparkasse became legally independent and in 1934 it was renamed Kreissparkasse Biberach. In the course of the district reform in 1938, the Laupheim and Bad Schussenried savings banks became part of the Biberach district savings bank. After the second district reform in 1973/74, Bad Buchau and Riedlingen followed.

In 1854, one year after the company was founded, the number of savings accounts was 937; in 1963 it was 49,300. The balance sheet total reached the DM 100 million mark in 1961. In 1978, the year of its 125th anniversary, it approached the billion mark and exceeded it for the first time in the following year. In 1899 the first full-time cashier was hired. In 1936, the Kreissparkasse Biberach had 22 employees and in 2018 there were more than 800.

The Kreissparkasse Biberach supports charitable activities in the Biberach district. In 2018, more than 1.1 million euros were spent on the areas of culture and social affairs, sport, education, science and business promotion.

A large part of this comes from the proceeds of their cultural and social foundation “Together for a better future”. With endowment assets of 26 million euros, it is the largest savings bank foundation in Baden-Württemberg.

The art foundation "pro arte" of the Kreissparkasse Biberach has endowment assets of 9 million euros. The foundation specifically acquires works by well-known artists from southwest Germany and organizes individual, group and themed exhibitions in its gallery at Ulmer Tor in Biberach.

Trust foundations can be set up as personal foundations under the umbrella of the "Foundation pro bono BC".
