action

German Turk Hayat is a passionate and ambitious soccer player, when a cancer, as a result of which her breast has to be removed, rips her from her full life. After her release from the hospital, she tries to find her way back to her old strength. Her apprenticeship examination as a goldsmith is imminent, and she wants - although the drugs weaken her - to catch up on the training deficit in football. Hayat's worried father Baba-Can, with whom she has lived alone since her mother's untimely death, has de-registered her from her team. Out of concern for her health, he would like to keep her away from any physical exertion. She secretly begins to train with the diverse women's team FC Schanze. Here Hayat not only meets nine idiosyncratic and lovable young women, but also the coach Toni, who has been transferred to the women's team, who tries to get the season over with without a lot of energy.

With her ambition and her passion for football, Hayat brings a breath of fresh air into the team and not only infects her teammates - Toni immediately falls in love with her. Toni begins to woo her imaginatively and tirelessly, but his attempts at flirting unsettle Hayat. Although she too feels strongly drawn to Toni, her self-image as a woman is too badly damaged by the operation. She cannot open up to him, the fear of rejection is simply too great. In addition, her father continues to watch over the welfare of his little princess with eagle eyes and is suspicious of Toni's advances. Hayat's best friend Ali, on the other hand, encourages her to acknowledge Toni. Despite all obstacles, Toni manages to persuade Hayat to spend an evening together. Back in the stairwell of Hayat's apartment block, the two kiss passionately until Toni notices Hayat's missing chest with a start. Hayat feels so set back that she runs into her apartment and has to be hospitalized because of a shock. Toni, however, manages to regain Hayat's trust. He takes her to his apartment, where they sleep together. The film ends on the football field: Hayat's comrades play a game against Hayat's former team. After some hesitation, Hayat only comes to the stadium in the final phase, is substituted on and scores the equalizer for her team.

Reviews

  • "True to the title, this film is something very special:" Another League "by Buket Alakus is bursting with life, color and energy" (Adolf Grimme Prize Jury 2008)
  • “This is how the film, which simply wants to tell about the lust for life and the power of a love that grows through resistance, seems all too well meant in the end” (Anke Sterneborg, Süddeutsche Zeitung , Munich , January 26, 2006)
  • “The feel-good movie, which strives for a positive broadcast, leaves the comic conflict potential of cultural differences largely unused and rather retreats to the non-committal and standard situations of sports films. Convincing and moving, on the other hand, is the intense love story, which is shaped entirely by the great leading actress. "( Film-dienst 2/2006)
