Buket Alakuş

Buket Alakuş (born July 1, 1971 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a German - Turkish film director and author. Her parents are Turkish immigrants . She has lived in Hamburg since 1973 or 1974 .

Life

Buket Alakuş graduated from the Berlin School of Fine Arts in 1995 as a communications specialist. In the same year she made her first short film called Martin , followed by a degree in film directing at the Institute for Theater, Music Theater and Film at the University of Hamburg with Hark Bohm , which she completed by 1998. During this time, she made several short films that won awards at various film festivals such as Schlüssel in 1996 , for which she was honored as “Best Female Lead Actress” at the Festival Mondial du Cinéma des Courts Métrages in Belgium . Her first full-length feature film, Anam ("My Mother") from 2001, where she first appeared as a screenwriter and film director, was - like her second work Eine Andere Liga , for whose book and direction Alakuş also won the Adolf Grimme Prize was honored - several awards.

In the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008, Buket Alakuş was an ambassador in Germany. The aim of the European Commission's campaign was to inform people in all 27 EU countries about the benefits of diversity and to inspire them to engage in intercultural exchange.
