The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kino - Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater eV is a network of independent commercial cinemas in Germany.

history

It was created in 2003 from the merger of the "Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater e. V. ”and the association“ Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kino ”, which has existed since 1972. According to the association's own homepage, 364 cinemas are organized there (as of January 2018).

The AG Kino - Gilde represents the interests of film art theaters vis-à-vis corporations, authorities, associations and on a political level. The working group also operates an Internet information portal with a focus on film reviews, film announcements, news, background articles and festival reports.

In 1977 the Gilde Film Prize was launched. Since 2004, it has been awarded by the merged association to the best arthouse films of the cinema year, with the best German and foreign production as well as the best documentary and children's film being awarded.

In addition, since 1996 the association has awarded the Gilde Deutscher Filmkunsttheater prize to a film from the official competition at the Berlin International Film Festival . The jury is made up of three cinema operators who are members of the association.

In 2001 the Filmkunstmesse Leipzig was launched by the AG as a platform for the exchange between cinema operators and distributors. The AG has been running the public magazine programmkino.de since 2006.
