Cinéfete

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cinéfête is a French youth film festival that goes on tour in around 120 German cinemas every year and offers more than 100,000 students an insight into French culture and film art.

The festival first took place in 2000 on the occasion of the European Year of Languages. At that time it was organized by the French Embassy in Germany and the nationwide Institut français. Since 2004, the organization of the annual festival has been taken over by the Institut français and the AG Kino - Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater.

Every year around eight French-language films are selected and made available to German cinemas as a festival selection. There they are presented exclusively in the original subtitled sound and enable visiting students to get a practical feel for the foreign language and the differences between cultures. In addition, the aim of the Cinéfête is to arouse a taste for cinema and film art by selecting high-quality films that appeal directly to the students.

To support the pedagogical preparation and follow-up of the films, comprehensive pedagogical dossiers are published for each film, which teachers can use in class.
