Rolf Schübel

Rolf Schübel (born November 11, 1942 in Stuttgart ) is a German film director who makes documentaries and feature films . He lives and works in Hamburg, is now one of the most renowned German film and television directors and has received numerous film prizes and international awards.

Life

Beginnings

Rolf Schübel studied literature and sociology in Tübingen and Hamburg . After meeting the filmmaker Theo Gallehr, they initially worked together under the company name Cinecollectiv . Their joint documentaries for the WDR and NDR include, for example, Der deutsche Kleinstädter (1968) and Rote Fahnen One sees better (1971). In 1972 Rolf Schübel founded his own film production. Cinematic highlights from the 1980s include Obituary for a Beast (1983) and The Indian (1987). The first is about the child murderer Jürgen Bartsch and the second is about a man suffering from throat cancer, which is based on an autobiographical story.

Feature films

After 25 more documentaries , Rolf Schübel developed with verifiable consistency in the direction of fiction, before he made his first fictional film in 1990 with Das Heimweh des Walerjan Wróbel . Well-known films followed, such as A Song of Love and Death - Gloomy Sunday (1999), Blueprint (2003) or Time of Desires (2005), which made him internationally known. Since the 1990s, Rolf Schübel has also shot numerous television games, most recently for some episodes of the crime scene in the first : 2006 Aus der Traum and 2007 Der Tote vom Straßenrand .

Rolf Schübel's films have received the rating “particularly valuable” several times. Since 1996 he has been a member of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin (Film and Media Art Section).
