Eierdiebe is a German tragic comedy by the director and screenwriter Robert Schwentke from 2003.

action

Martin, a student son from a good family, is diagnosed with testicular cancer. A circumstance that threatens to throw his previously orderly and successful life off course. Since he does not want to risk his erectile function, he begins three months of chemotherapy . An ever stronger friendship develops between him and his unusual roommates Nickel and Harry - also cancer patients. This friendship is completed by Susanne, who is suffering from cancer.

As a result of a bet, the four decide to get Martin's "stolen" testicles back, because he is still his property. After stealing him from the pathology and burying him outside the hospital, Nickel collapses and dies a little later. Susanne's condition also deteriorated noticeably and she eventually died in the intensive care unit . Martin and Harry alone survive their cancer for the time being.

Reviews

In " epd Film " the film was praised for portraying the absurd moments of the hermetically sealed hospital world with its own laws and rituals. He is full of humor, does not walk the well-trodden paths and still inspires pity for his characters. The director was helped by the excellent actors. In the top video news from the Children's and Youth Film Center it says: “[Robert Schwentke] deals with the taboo disease cancer, partly with black humor and partly with seriousness. [...] Even if egg thieves celebrate shrill absurdities according to the motto 'tumor is if you laugh anyway', it still leaves enough space for poignantly tragic moments, especially in Martin's love affair with cancer patient Susanne.
