Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins is a science fiction adventure by Robert Schwentke . Like the previous films, the film is based on the “ GI-Joe ” toy franchise and is the opening film in the announced Hasbro Cinematic Universe .

Like the previous films GI Joe - Secret Order Cobra and GI Joe - Die Abrechnung , the film is based on the " GI-Joe " toy franchise and is the opening film in the announced Hasbro Cinematic Universe . A direct sequel is planned with GI Joe: Ever Vigilant . Ray Park , who played the title character Snake Eyes in the two previous GI Joe films, will not be returning in the spin-off as he is too old for the role, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura .

The director was Robert Schwentke , the script was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos .

Filming took place from mid-October to early December 2019 in Tokyo and at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Bojan Bazelli acted as cameraman .

The film music is composed by Martin Todsharow , with whom Schwentke already worked for Der Hauptmann .

The film was originally scheduled to hit German and US cinemas in October 2020, but was postponed to October 22, 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic .
