Rudi Gaul

Rudi Gaul (* 1982 in Munich ) is a German film and theater director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Rudi Gaul completed a degree in theater studies, German and political science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 2003 to 2009 and was a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung . In 2006 he founded the film production company Schattengewächs. His first feature film Das Zimmer im Spiegel was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize and awarded as the best young film at the Five Lakes Film Festival . From 2009 to 2010 Gaul was a VGF scholarship holder at the Bavarian Film Center in Munich. For his documentary Wader Wecker Vater Land , he was nominated for the German Director's Award Metropolis in 2011 and was awarded the Audience Award at the Munich Film Festival as the most popular film.

In 2015 Gaul staged his first opera at the Freiburg Theater with Verdi's Il Trovatore . In 2017 he made his first guest appearance at Theater Baden-Baden with his production Geächtet by Ayad Akhtar . In the 2017/2018 theater season he directed Yasmina Reza's comedy Bella Figura , which was revived in the 2018/2019 season.
