The Baden-Baden Theater on Goetheplatz is the city ​​theater of the city of Baden-Baden .

history

At the instigation of the then casino leaseholder Edouard Bénazet , the theater was built by Charles Couteau in the French style.

Especially for the opening in August 1862, Hector Berlioz composed the opera Béatrice et Bénédict based on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing . In 1869 Jacques Offenbach conducted the world premiere of his operetta La princesse de Trébizonde here .

The theater has had a permanent cast of actors since 1918. The repertoire of the repertoire mainly includes the works of William Shakespeare , Heinrich von Kleist , modern classics and French-language guest performances. As part of guest performances and co-productions, operas and other musical theater works are also performed.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the theater was completely renovated and equipped with modern technology.

In 2005 and 2019, Theater Baden-Baden hosted the Baden-Württemberg Theater Days .

The theater is one of the venues for the New Pop Festival . The rooms, especially the foyer, can be rented for weddings and other events.
