VdFS was founded by filmmakers in 1992 and is the youngest of the Austrian collecting societies.

structure

VdFS is organized as a private cooperative . The company headquarters are in Vienna. The organs of the cooperative are the general assembly (full members), the board of directors and the supervisory board. An annual meeting of those entitled to royalties takes place to represent the non-ordinary members .

revenue

The VdFS generates royalties in the following areas:

  • Storage media remuneration
  • Cable compensation
  • Communication to the public in schools and universities
  • Library royalty

control

VdFS is audited by its supervisory board, the Austrian cooperative association (Schulze-Delitzsch) , the supervisory authority for collecting societies and an independent auditor.

tasks

VdFS distributes royalties from secondary exploitation of films to filmmakers and actors. It acts as the trustee of the rights holders and primarily distributes the remuneration arising from cable and empty cassette remuneration to its beneficiaries. After deducting administrative costs, the royalties are passed on in full to the beneficiaries in accordance with the distribution provisions.

Authorized authors from the professional groups of directing, camera, editing, costume design and film architecture as well as actors and legal successors of beneficiaries are entitled to purchase. The basis for exercising these rights is the conclusion of a management contract with VdFS. VdFS currently represents around 2,800 beneficiaries. Reciprocity agreements with sister companies ensure that the rights of beneficiaries are also exercised abroad.

In addition to the main task of collecting and distributing royalties, statutory social and cultural tasks are also performed, e.g. B. Promotion of Austrian filmmaking or living allowances for beneficiaries in need.

VdFS is not geared towards profit and only deducts the administrative costs incurred from the income.

The organization is committed to reforming copyright law.
