Michaela Kezele

Michaela Kezele (* 1975 in Munich ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Kezele was born the daughter of a Serb and a Croat . The war in Yugoslavia made her return to her native Munich in 1991 after childhood in Dubrovnik . After studying at the University of Television and Film , Michaela Kezele directed her short film Milan as a graduation film . The film was nominated for the “Student Academy Awards” in 2007 and won over 30 international prizes, including the “Grand Prix” at the Tampere International Short Film Festival , the “Best European Short Film Award” and the “Cinema Without Borders Best International Film Award” at Palm Springs International ShortFest .

Kezele's first feature film, Die Brücke am Ibar ( My Beautiful Country ) also won numerous awards. For example, Kezele was awarded the Bernhard Wicki Film Prize in 2012 and the Bavarian Film Prize in 2013 as the best young director. In 2015 Kezele received the medal for special services to Bavaria in a United Europe . The episode film The Love Europe Projekt received the Grimme Prize in 2020 .

In 2016, Kezele became a professor at the University of Television and Film Munich and has also been the women's representative at the HFF Munich since 2018. In 2019, Kezele was elected a board member of the Zurich Film Foundation.
