Gabriela Zerhau

Gabriela Zerhau (born April 16, 1955 in Graz ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter .

biography

After Zerhau had studied theater studies, German and psycholinguistics at the LMU in Munich and completed her studies with a Magister Artium , from 1978 she trained as an assistant director in various film and television productions, starting with the literary adaptation of The Man in the Reed, based on a novel by George Saiko , with whom she assisted the director Manfred Purzer . Gabriela Zerhau has been working as a screenwriter and director since 1983/1984. Her first work for ORF was a documentary about Peter Rosegger (1983). In 1983/1984 she assisted in eleven episodes of the historical television series Waldheimat , based on Rosegger's autobiographical stories in Waldheimat. Memories from youth go back. In 1984 Zerhau shot her first feature film as a director, the comedy Change of scenery with Claudia Demarmels and Rolf Zacher in the leading roles. The film was also the first film work by actress Christine Neubauer . In 1986 she directed six episodes of the television series Die Hausmeisterin with Veronika Fitz in the title role. The series was awarded the Grimme Prize , the Telestar and the Bavarian Television Prize. Zerhaus's work for the early evening series Das Nest (1989) received the Starlight Prize in the category “Best Early Night Series ”.

Zerhau received the Telestar in 1997 for her television film Der Neffe with Martina Gedeck , who plays the aunt of Albert, played by Patrick Schwamberger . The film was also nominated for the Grimme Prize and the Golden Lion . TV Spielfilm wrote about the television comedy Also Men Need Love with Dominic Raacke , Sophie von Kessel and Uwe Ochsenknecht , broadcast in 1998 : "The man, the all-too-well-known being, is watched with a wink by director Gabriela Zerhau (...) while hunting and collecting women." 1999 Zerhau accepted a teaching position at the Austrian script laboratory, BKA art section.

For the television film Lüg weiter, Liebling (2010), Zerhau was able to win Hannelore Elsner and Götz George for the main roles, which can be seen as a film couple for the first time. For the film drama Every Day Counts , Zerhau worked with Lilian Prent , Katharina Böhm and Bernhard Schir . The film is based on a true medical history, written by Jutta Mehler , the mother of those suffering from leukemia. The film was praised at the Hamburg Film Festival and received a nomination for the Jupiter Award . Night of Fear Zerhau wrote and directed 2015 for television, a Bavaria-Film production . Nina Kunzendorf plays a midwife who is charged with assault. The film won the audience award at the Biberach film festival , and Kunzendorf the Bavarian television award . As part of the Romy Awards 2020 , she was nominated for the television film A village defends itself in the category Best Director TV Fiction .

Zerhau was a member of the jury for the Telestar several times. For her BMW industrial film , she received the photokina award at the ITVA festival . She also worked on the production of Psychology Online , patient and expert films for the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Stiftung Leben mit Krebs, and the film Children of Parents with Cancer from the Institute of Applied Psychology in Architecture and Health, and wrote the script for the film Sozialschmarotzer , a production by Eikon Film .
