Waldheimat is an Austrian / German youth and history television series from 1983. The focus is on the childhood and youth of the writer Peter Rosegger . The episodes are based on Rosegger's autobiographical stories in Waldheimat. Memories from the youth of 1877.

content

Peter grows up on a remote forest farm in Styria . After training as a tailor, he decided to become a writer and left the farm. The individual stories deal with superstition and little scoundrels at the time, but also with the beginning of industrialization, represented by the recently completed Semmering Railway in the first episode.

ZDF and ORF broadcast the 90-minute pilot film Der Waldbauernbub on December 24, 1983 in the main evening program. In it, Peter Rosegger remembers his childhood as a young man at Christmas, which is presented in individual episodes. Among other things, the story When I went to fetch Christmas delights is shown in it. On December 27th, the ORF broadcast episode 1 in the afternoon program when I sat on the steam car for the first time. ZDF followed on January 3, 1984.

The series episodes are based on the autobiographical stories in Waldheimat. Memories from my youth that first appeared in Pressburg in 1877. It is a co-production by ORF, ZDF, SVT 1 and MR-Film / Vienna . The shooting lasted almost a year and around 200 actors took part. The cost was 10 million marks .

Many well-known Austrian and German actors worked in the series, including Karl Merkatz , Herbert Fux , Klaus Rott , Heinz Petters , Fritz Muliar , Jane Tilden , Franz Muxeneder , Franz Suhrada and Josef Meinrad .

Locations

The locations are in the Steirer Waldheimat . The Schirner-Rauchstubenhaus was chosen as the Roßegger's farm. It was inhabited until 1977 and is now a museum. The real birthplace of Rosegger is the Kluppeneggerhof further north .

Republication

The series ( Waldheimat ) and the pilot film ( Der Waldbauernbub - Christmas in the Waldheimat ) have now been released on DVD .
