Karl Merkatz
Karl Merkatz (born November 17, 1930 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian actor . He participated in numerous Austrian film productions and plays.
Life
The son of a firefighter initially completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He later took acting lessons in Salzburg, Vienna and Zurich and took his final exam at the Mozarteum . This was followed by theater engagements in Heilbronn, Nuremberg, Salzburg, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich and Vienna ( Theater in der Josefstadt ).
In Heilbronn he met his future wife Martha Metz. The two have been married since 1956 and live in Irrsdorf near Straßwalchen . The marriage has two daughters, Gitta (* July 2, 1958) and Josefine (* April 13, 1962).
Film and theater
Karl Merkatz played numerous roles in film and television. He became known to a large audience as "Mundl" Edmund Sackbauer in the television series A real Viennese does not go under (1975–1979), a milieu study that shows the life of a Viennese working class family . He also had great success in Franz Antel's films about the Bockerer as the Viennese butcher Karl Bockerer, which is shown in the fight against National Socialism , in occupied post-war Austria , during the Hungarian popular uprising and in the Prague Spring . For the first part, Merkatz received the award for best actor at the Moscow Film Festival as well as the gold film band .
Since 2005 he has played the role of Benesch von Diedicz in King Ottokar's Glück und Ende - the production ran at the Salzburg Festival and has been on the program of the Vienna Burgtheater since October 2005 . Karl Merkatz also played in the play Jedermann at the Salzburg Festival 2005 .

Karl Merkatz is committed to the human rights platform SOS Mitmensch , of which he was chairman from 1999 to 2001.
In November 2005, Karl Merkatz sponsored a koala at Schönbrunn Zoo for € 4,800 per year .
On September 19, 2005, Merkatz caused a fatal traffic accident in Henndorf a. W. , who killed a 33-year-old motorcyclist. For this he was found guilty on January 31, 2006 by the Salzburg Regional Court and sentenced to four months' imprisonment on probation for negligent homicide .
