Eustathe Joseph Mounayer
Eustathe Joseph Mounayer (born June 6, 1925 in Katana , Syria ; † February 16, 2007 ) was Archbishop of the Syrian Catholic Archdiocese of Damascus in Damascus , Syria.
Life
Eustathe Joseph Mounayer was ordained a priest on April 23, 1949 . 1961 he was by Paul VI. appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Antioch in Lebanon and titular bishop of Hierapolis in Syria dei Siri . In 1978 he was appointed the seventh archbishop of the Archdiocese of Damascus. In 2001, his resignation as Metropolitan of Damascus was granted by John Paul II ; he was active as auxiliary bishop in Antioch until his death .
