The former Arklow S-Class is a seven-unit coaster class . The ships are part of the Barkmeijer 3200 type, which consists of a total of 17 units.
history
The ships were built at the Dutch shipyard Barkmeijer Stroobos in Leeuwarden for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping. Initially, two ships were ordered, which were delivered in 1995 and 1996. This was followed by the order for two more units delivered in 1998 and finally for the last three ships of the class, which were completed in 1999 and 2000.
All ships sailed under the flag of the Netherlands with their home port Zaandam . In 2012 the ships were sold to companies belonging to the Kopervik Group and brought under the flag of the Bahamas . All ships were later resold.
description
The ships are powered by a diesel engine from the manufacturer Caterpillar . The MaK 8M20 motors have an output of 1,360 kW and act on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear . The ships can thus reach 11 knots . Two Valmet diesel engines with an output of 110 kW each and one Valmet diesel engine with an output of 42 kW are available for power generation, which drive two Stamford generators with 112 kVA apparent power each and one Stamford generator with 47.5 kVA apparent power. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 200 kW power, which is powered by a Scania engine.
The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It has three decks. The ships are intended for operation with six crew members , all of whom can be accommodated in individual cabins. Another cabin is available if required. The hold is in front of the deckhouse . The hatch is 63 meters long and 10.2 meters wide and closed with ten pontoon hatch covers that can be moved using a hatch cart. With a length of 59.3 meters, the cargo area is box-shaped and tapered slightly in the front area. The ships are equipped with two bulkheads with which the hold can be divided. The bulkheads can be set up in six positions. The cargo space is 4,723 m³. The tank top can be loaded with 14 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.6 t / m².
The ships are intended for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 154 TEU . Of these, 114 TEU can be loaded in the room and 40 TEU on deck, whereby the average weight of the containers must not exceed 15 t. When loaded with high-cube containers, there is space for 76 TEU in the room, so that the container capacity is reduced to 116 TEU. When loaded with high-cube containers, the average weight of the containers loaded in the room must not exceed 24 t.
