history

The ship was under the hull number 703 of STX Norway Offshore AS in Norway built Langsten. The hull was supplied by the Romanian shipyard STX RO Offshore Tulcea SA.

The keel was laid on April 23, 2007, and the ship was launched on May 14, 2008. The ship was completed on March 24, 2009.

The Far Samson was u. a. in action for the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline in the Baltic Sea . In 2009 the ship was named Ship of the Year by the Norwegian shipping magazine Skipsrevyen .

Technology and equipment

The deck superstructures are in the front half of the ship. Behind it is a 1450 m² open working deck that can be loaded with up to 2300 t. The maximum deck loading is 15 t / m². In the area of ​​the working deck there are two cranes with a lifting capacity of 250 and 20 t respectively. At the stern of the ship there is a stern boom with a lifting capacity of 315 t.

There is a helicopter platform in the front area of ​​the ship.

The ship is propelled by two controllable pitch propellers. This enables the ship to reach a maximum speed of 19  knots . The stated cruising speed is 13 kn. In addition, the ship has three extendable propeller nacelles with 2000 kW each, two of which are located in the foredeck and one in the stern area. The ship also has a bow and two stern thrusters.

With a bollard pull of 423  tons , which can be achieved using all five propellers, the ship is one of the most powerful tugs ever built. Using the two variable pitch propellers at the stern, it can pull of 377 tons. The Far Samson serves as catering .

On board there is space for 100 people in 22 single and 39 double cabins. The ship has ice class 1B.
