Phettberg's Nice Leit Show was initially conceived as a pure stage show by the Viennese off-theater group Sparverein Die Unz-Ertrennlichen around Kurt Palm and performed from November 12, 1994 in the building of the KPÖ- owned Globus Verlag . In June 1995, the performance on November 26, 1994 was broadcast as a pilot episode on ORF. There were a total of 24 performances of the show, 19 of which were broadcast on ORF. In particular, the performances of the opera connoisseur Marcel Prawy and the animal rights activist Edith Klinger are still cult today .
Talk host Hermes Phettberg welcomed three either prominent guests or simply guests with "interesting" professions such as the retired food controller Alfred Psota or Sepp Kerschbaumer, Vienna's last ferryman , per episode . Recurring elements of the show were the appearance of “Assistant Robin” (portrayed by Oliver Hangl ), who always recorded a Polaroid with Phettberg and his guest at the end of the panel discussions , the “can shooting at the end of the week” and of course the question to the guests “ eggnog or Frucade ? “ Which soon became the proverbial name for the show and led to increased awareness and sales of the latter product. At the end of each show, Phettberg read a letter from director Kurt Palm that contained praise or criticism and announced the guests for the next episode. Using a toy telephone placed on a table between the talk master and the guest, the director could also contact the talk master directly and give him instructions. According to the original idea of a stage show, Phettberg and the respective guest sat on the stage of the hall, the furniture and a photo wallpaper used as a background ironically reminded of a stuffy, tasteless living room from the 1960s.
The individual shows called “evenings” were rounded off by the musical framework by Chrono Popp , performances by the Poulard brothers and short films produced by the “Sparverein”.
